USB type A has been known for its issues of not being able to plug in both ways. Way back in 2016, there was a new invention that allowed for you to plug it in both ways! Unfortunately that never really took off, so in this video we see what really happened.

I have one of those as an extension cable and was surprised to learn that even the data pins must be reversible because the mouse worked just fine. Therefore it must be specified that devices can be connected reversed. I guess the flexible part in the plug is not that sturdy, which could be a reason why this never took off.
